If Looks Could Kill by Beverly Barton - Book Review

Image
As a writer and reader, I believe it is vital to sometimes change the genre you read. I am a big lover of romance and young adult books, but if I always read the same types of genres, my mind would not grow. On top of that, I would love to write crime fiction when I am older. Therefore, reading in this genre will help me understand what is needed when writing in this category.  The blurb hooked me from the start, and throughout reading the novel, I was hooked. I would read this book during my breaks at my old job, and on a few occasions, I lost track of time and came down from my break a few minutes late – luckily, no one realised.  I have also just realised that this book is part of a series, being the third and final. Throughout the book, I did have a feeling that there was at least another book before this one as some criminal act happened between these characters before, but there are actually two. However, you don’t have to actually read the first two, even though it might put s

Operation Sunshine by Jenny Colgan - Book Review

I enjoy reading, I always have, and I always will. But I will tell you how I personally felt about this book right from the start of this review. It was not my favourite and nor would I read it again. The book is about Evie, a receptionist to a high-class plastic surgeon in London. She’s been dying for a holiday but has only bad memories; either she’s ended up having arguments with her three brothers, gotten sunburnt, projectile vomiting or ended up experiencing all. So, when she’s then invited to a holiday work trip with her company to the south of France, she’s more than happy and is looking forward to a bit of relaxation in the sun, and maybe… just maybe some sex. But of course, this holiday turned out to be a bit more interesting and exciting than she thought it would be. Before I get into why I didn’t really enjoy this book, there is one element that I do believe Colgan did well. I was pulled into the novel from the first page; it had a good hook. On top of that, no matter how cr

How To Fail At Flirting by Denise Williams - Book Review

How To Fail At Flirting is Denise Williams' debut novel, after reading her second romance, Fastest Way To Fall, I knew I had to read this book. Once again, Williams made me fall in love with these characters, and wish I had a chance to experience something like this as well.  This novel focuses on Naya, a professor who is always hard-working and prefers to focus on her job rather than go out. That is until her friends convince her to go out and complete a to-do list of what to do during the night. She does, even though she wishes not to and luckily she bumps into a stranger who is willing to help her with this list. You guessed it… she meets her love interest, Jake. He is everything she has been looking for without realising, he makes her confident, something which she has lost after being with an abusive boyfriend. But the question is, will Naya accept her true self as a confident woman or will she return back to who she was before? At the start, I was quite worried about how this
