Spider Bones by Kathy Reichs - Book Review

Image
When looking at the books that I have read so far this year, I have mainly stuck with the romance genre. It’s the genre I love the most, as well as finding enjoyment in writing a romance. However, I do enjoy the occasional crime book. Kathy Reichs is known to be one of the most famous crime authors. She’s been writing in this genre since 1997. And the book Spider Bones is her thirteenth book in the series of Temperance Brennan.  This book series influenced the T.V. show Bones to happen, and it lasted for twelve years. You can actually watch this series on Prime or Disney+. I might soon watch it as well.  The novel revolves around the protagonist, Temperance Brennan. She is a forensic anthropologist and works with the police sometimes to solve crimes. She is called to check out a dead body, who they quickly find out his name is John Lowery. But there is a problem. John Lowery has actually been dead since 1968 in a Huey crash in Vietnam. The question that is bubbling in the read...

To all music lovers, this is one for you.  Known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley blessed everyone with his low soulful voice. He was born on 8th January 1935. Became a singer in 1954. Sadly passed away after having a heart attack due to his drug addiction on 16th August 1977.  Still to this day many singers resing his songs and give it their own twist. One of the most popular songs that people love to record over and over again is: Can’t Help Falling In Love. A beautiful magical song about the true nature of love. Elvis, himself, even knew how popular this song was and would normally sing this song to close his concerts.  If you ever have the chance to go to Memphis, a must is to visit these landmarks.  His home in Graceland is known to be the most visited home in the United State, with more than 500,000 visits per year. And you could be one of them.  Tours are common to explore the nooks and cranny of Elvis’ home, to walk where he once did. Just be ...

The Flat Share by Beth O'Leary - Book Review

Image
I’ve been hearing great things about this novel for many months, finally one day I bought the book. After reading this novel, I must agree one hundred and ten percent with all of those reviews about how great this novel is.  It is surprising to know that this is O’Leary’s debut novel, especially on how well it’s been written. The writing and how she holds the reader's attention makes it seem like she has been publishing novels for over twenty years. She also took risks on how to present the writing in this novel; carry on reading and you’ll find out what I mean about this.  Straight away from the book cover, you get a gist of what the book is about. Right at the bottom, it says ‘Tiffy & Leon share a bed. Tiffy & Leon have never met…’ Two people sharing not only a flat, but a bed, and yet never met one another; how does that work?  Tiffy is moving on, leaving her ex’s, Justin, place. He has a new girlfriend, therefore means Tiffy wants to leave the flat. The...

Writing A Dream Sequence In Your Creative Piece

Image
During my time at University we were told a number of times to not write dream sequences in our stories, especially if it’s the opening for the novel. The reason for this is because it’s believed to give readers false hope, or false tension. That once the reader finishes reading the dream they would think, ‘Oh, none of that actually happened, what was the point of that?’ However, I personally believe that in some cases, if done well, dream sequences do help with the flow of the story, as well as adding another layer to the novel or movie. It can also be used as a tool for foreshadowing.  If you are thinking of writing a dream sequence in your creative piece. Most of these tips can be used for a novel and screenplay, but a few may be mainly for a novel.  Research: Psychologists have come to a conclusion that dreams do mean something, therefore research is important, as each object represents something else. For example: being chased in your dream tends to mean you are running a...
