Top Five Things To Do When You’re Waiting For A Plane During A Layover
I’m on an adventure of a lifetime with my cousin, Erin, and our first stop is in Singapore (our base as we have family living there). If you are looking into the idea of travelling Asia as well or simply want to visit Singapore, then you are warned that this journey is a long one which includes two planes.
My cousin and I decided to go with Emirates whilst flying to Singapore, this airline has a layover in Dubai. Once off your first plane, you’d take a bus to the terminal where you must follow the red sign where it will lead you to all of the connecting flights. But once you go through security and you find the gate where you must go through to board the second plane, what do you do next to waste the time as you wait for the second part of your journey?
As we waited, it made me think of the activities that one can do whilst waiting for a plane or a connecting one like me and my cousin were doing.
In this blog, we will go through the top five activities a person can do once you're ready to board your plane.
Check out the shops
Every airport has duty free shops, which means you could always go and check out what they are selling. Of course, most times, although they do not have any tax added on top of it, the prices are expensive, but it doesn’t mean you should not explore. Who knows, maybe you’ve forgotten something from your travels which you remembered on the first plane. If so, this is the perfect time for you to buy the item, whether it is some paracetamol or simply a book to entertain you on your holiday.
Read a Book
Whether you already have a book or bought one at the duty free shops, reading is a perfect way to make sure time goes by. For most people, we do not have the time to read our books which we have bought as work life and homelife is rather chaotic, especially around this time of the year. But thankfully, holiday time means you time, and if you are flying twice to arrive at your destination and haven’t read anything on the plane, open your book and be taken by the beauty of words.
Watch Something
Now, you might not want to do this one as you might have spent the plane journey watching movie after movie and you want to rest your eyes. However, even if you slept on the plane or watched movies, maybe you want to catch up on a series which you downloaded. Remember, downloaded movies/series only have a month of availability on your device. It might seem like a long time, but we all know once the exploring starts you're going to forget about it as you want to enjoy your days doing something new.
Play Cards
If you're not a solo traveller, try and remember to bring some cards with you. You'd be able to spend time playing all different types of card games, such as cheat, rummikub and more. Also cards are perfect if you want to save the battery on your devices as you might need to use your phones once you've arrived at your destination.
Listen To Music
If you are a solo traveller, which I have been a few times, listening to music is the perfect activity to do as you’ll be able to simply sit and take in the surroundings. Remember to create a playlist before leaving so you will be able to have one whilst waiting. Whilst listening, why not also people watch. This activity is a fun way to create little stories of where someone might be travelling to and why.
There are many activities which you will be able to do whilst waiting between your two flights for you to not find boredom. It can be tedious when waiting for so many hours as all you want is to be at the place you are travelling to already.
