Travel Day

Dear Luna,

Today is the start of one of the most amazing adventures of my life… so far. Ever since I was a young girl, the idea of travelling has always been some sort of dream, and I believed it would mainly stay like that, a dream, but here I am travelling all the way to Singapore to make travelling around Asia a reality.
As a writer, the thought of learning about different cultures that played a role in creating this wonderful world (even though in some areas it is not that great) has always been something I wanted to do. Our world holds so many stories that led to all of this and in some ways, it’s rather beautiful to understand the hardship which happened for us to be here in the world.

And so, for the next four months, my cousin (Erin) and I will be travelling around Asia and Australia,  the countries which are included are Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, Indonesia, and, of course, Australia. Singapore will be our base as we are fortunate enough to have family living there and will casually visit whilst on our adventure.

Before leaving, I thought about writing a sort of travel diary blog, perhaps not one I would write in every day, no — that writing will be in my actual travel diary. This is why the form of this blog begins with Dear Luna, a word that means moon in Italy. I thought calling these styles of blogs Dear Luna was perfect for me as I am half Italian, but also, the moon is always in the sky even during the day and I enjoy the thought that even being so far away from home, my family and friends will be able to see the same moon as I do.

As I sit here, waiting for my second plane from Dubai to Singapore, I’m still trying to come to terms that I am, in fact, doing this. I am so lucky that at the age of twenty-three I am able to go on such a fun and incredible trip. And as much as I would say that if everyone has the chance to do this, they should, I understand the difficulty of it all. Although I did save a lot, and when I mean a lot, I do mean that, there are certain aspects of my life that my parents paid for which could have affected this opportunity to travel.

And in that sense, it is a privilege to be able to travel, even if it is to the country next to you. But especially now, how life is for many people where they have to choose between paying for gas and electricity; in my opinion, if a government has people struggling to survive, it is therefore a government that has failed. Perhaps I am going off topic about my travels, but I do think it is important for people to understand how their life has affected them for the better. And on top of that, this is my travel blog, in a form of a diary, and everyone knows a diary is written from the heart filled with full honesty and the truth.

I do wonder how I will be when I finish my travels around Asia come the 5th of April. Will I still be the same as I am now? I hope in some ways I have grown and have developed in some way. I hope when I come back, the fear of failure to become an author has weakened and I will just go for it. After all, I am doing this, that means I can do anything… right?

Before I finish, I want to put out what I believe which country I’ll enjoy the most/least, etc.

The country I believe I’ll enjoy the most is Thailand or Australia.

The country I believe I’ll enjoy the least (but still love) I believe might be South Korea mainly because of the cold, I might be Dutch, but I am truly Italian.

The country I believe will be the cheapest will be Vietnam.

The country I believe will be the most expensive will be Japan, even though we’re only staying there for five full days (full as in 24 hours), when researching, Japan seems expensive.

And there you have it, I wonder if my answers will stay the same or differ when I’m travelling back home. Who knows… I guess we will see.

Until next time, Luna. ❤️❤️❤️
