A Week In Adelaide - Dear Luna

Dear Luna,

I am rather lucky when it comes to my family as I have family all over the world, which does sometimes make travelling rather easy.

Not only do I have family in Italy and the Netherlands, but also in Singapore and Australia. Singapore is where my uncle and aunt live which makes the perfect base for our travels and my cousin and I have stopped over a few times between certain countries.

The family I have in Australia are ones that immigrated from Italy in the 50s and have grown their family in this warm country. Some I haven’t even seen for nearly twenty years and at the age of four I have pretty much no memory of them. However, the week in Adelaide was a chance to see the wildlife but also meet more of my cousins (second/third cousin once remove whatever it is called).

To many, Adelaide is a place which nothing really happens, but luckily for us, the Adelaide Fringe was on, which meant we had things to do with my family. However, we did arrive during a heatwave of 40 degrees, which means certain activities could not be done and changes of plans had to happen.

Visiting wildlife parks was a joy, we had a chance to feed Kangaroos, pat a koala as we could not hold them due to the heat. But being able to see these animals roaming around and coming up to you for food was rather nerve racking. The day before we walked around the land of my cousins where Kangaroos just jump around and eat the grass. To many, people would be worried, we’ve all seen the videos of kangaroos fighting each other or people. Yet, truth be told, these kangaroos are more scared of humans and they are merely like the cows in a field you’d find back at home.

Our second part of the week we stayed with other cousins, and we learnt that when my mum came here at my age, she was the age of her eldest, and we joked around how her children will come to England and stay with me when we are older. I would like that very much, it would be like a tradition, my mum stayed with them all during her stay in Australia. My cousin stayed with my family in England during her stay and now I stayed with them during my stay.

Due to the heat of this week, we spent our days inside museums where the air-con kept us cool. We visited the MOD and interactive museum and the exhibition which they had one was called flex (all about the body). With the family, we explored the beach, swimming in the sea during sundown. And on our last night we watched a drone show about the history of Australia and the culture of aboriginal people.

It was a joy exploring Adelaide and seeing family who I have not seen for years and some never having met since forever. I know many do not have this opportunity and having the chance to know that I have family scattered around the world will forever be nice.

And I cannot wait to see how the rest of my stay in Australia will be.

Until next time, Luna ❤️❤️❤️
