Changes - Dear Luna

Dear Luna,

When we look back a decade ago, we can see how much has changed. How much we have grown, how much we have learnt. However, when we look at the present and see the changes that are about to happen the fear sometimes sinks into us.

I have great news, one of my best friends who I’ve known since I was seven is planning to move out of our town and live in London. It won’t be hard to see them again as London is just half an hour away on the fast train. But knowing that our time of being able to message each other asking if we want to go for a walk or go to the corner shop is coming to an end makes me wish I could go back in time.

I remember us riding our bikes to the trees and climbing them, and as always, something always accidentally ended up in my sister’s eye, whether it be part of a branch or a fly. I remember me and my friend sneakily going to the corner shop, buying a packet of crisps, chocolate, and sweets all for a pound, then of course, it turned into two pounds, finally, it made sense to bring a fiver just in case.

When I went to university or when I started to plan my travels, the fear of this new change didn’t make me wish I could fall back to how life was before. Why? Because I wasn’t entering adulthood.

Sure, university was a step towards it, but I was still in education, I was still, in some ways, free to do whatever. With travelling, it gave me another chance to escape my adult years for just a bit longer.

With my friend leaving, it’s another sign that our adult lives are truly beginning and everything is becoming real. I am so happy that they are looking into moving to London because it’s the right move and they are ready.

I just wish for one more day of our childhood, going around the garages, sneaking to the corner shop, climbing trees, and playing Mario Bros. If we had known that was our last time, would we have said something, said a thanks for us being friends in our childhood years?

Time waits for no one, it’s always moving and changing and none of us can control it. I think whenever a change is happening, most of us will wish we could, for a second, jump back to our childhood — the life of the innocent, with no need to worry about adult problems.

But as I said, time is always adapting and never waits for anyone. We just have to accept it and look forward to what the future will bring. Because change is a good thing, it means we are growing and becoming the person we were always meant to be.

No matter how much I wish we could jump back, I can’t wait to see my best friend grow even more with this new exciting change they are going to make.

Until next time, Luna ❤️❤️❤️
